This paper offers a view of happiness and well-being as a process, as something to be built by means of personal development and growth, which will lead "through self-knowledge" to be more balanced, calm and able to enjoy what we do and what we live through. We analyse what happiness is to us, emphasising the fact that it does not entail having everything or not having problems or difficulties; in all, that it does lie outside but in ourselves; thus, we highlight that it is possible to achieve it. From the humanistic psychology perspective, we connect it with positive psychology, whose origins go back to the former. We briefly review the concept of happiness as seen by different authors within humanistic psychology. We finally focus on the perspective of Personality and Human Relations (PRH), very close to the Rogerian view.

For Personality and Humanity Relations happiness can be gained little by little, as it is linked to a process of inner growth which leads the person to be oneself, displaying all his/her potential, not to be dependent on social success or on appearances, to get the power over his/her own life, feeling increasingly freer from external and internal bonds, to the meaning of one¿s own being, etc. For all this, we also analyse what it means to grow, what promotes and what hinders this process of inner growing. From this perspective, we argue that happiness and optimism towards life is something that is not achieved by chance, or just because we want to. It requires long, deep inner work to get to know our abilities and limitations and to be able to develop them and promote them in our lives and relationships. But, in order to experience freedom, joy, optimism, love, patience, kindness, clarity, wisdom, and openness towards life it is often necessary to try and heal sensibility wounds which do not allow a person to live by what s/he is and be happy. In addition, it is essential to carry out a process of reeducation to change attitudes and ways of being acquired throughout the process of development and which hurt the person, preventing him/her from being oneself and being happy.

We claim that in this process of personal development and growth it is sometimes necessary to get help which allows the person to be aware of him herself and of what prevents him/her from being happy to walk step by step towards one's own satisfaction and happiness. Nevertheless, we propose some ideas to achieve happiness which can be implemented in our lives, such as live the present, focus on positive aspects, enjoy little things and moments, etc.

Finally, we believe that those who work helping others to grow (i.e. educators, pedagogues, psychopedagogues, psychologists, etc.) should carry out a process of inner change and growth, trying to get to be themselves, to build their own happiness so that they can help others build it, as "we cannot lead anyone else further than we have been ourselves". We focus on the training of educators and psychopedagogues, and propose some basic elements for their university training, as well as on the possible methodology to employ. We also stress the usefulness of intense, personal humanistic training. We propose PRH as a possible model, among many others, which considers personal training as a process of self-discovery guided by courses, accompaniment groups, written analyses or helping relationships. This is a distinguishing feature from other possible ways to access happiness in which the only training and healing is therapy. Lastly, we briefly analyse the types of helping relationships, their main stages and characteristics, together with the main requirements from the helping person, who should display: 1) a way of doing, techniques, and a way of being, and 2) a given attitude, something which can be transferred to the educational relationship and to any type of relationship.
